    The ingredients list matters as much as the panel

    Ingredients are listed by weight, heaviest first. A product where sugar (in any of its many names) appears in the first three ingredients is worth a second look, even if the nutrition panel looks reasonable at a glance.

    No single packaged food needs to be “perfect.” Label-reading is most useful as a comparison tool — this brand versus that one, this option versus a homemade alternative — rather than a pass/fail test applied to every food in isolation.
